Saw Kyla yesterday. Well, actually, I saw Kyla for a bit on the fifteenth when she and Justin stopped by on Harry Potter night and then again for lunch on Sunday. She was in town for a wedding and knew that I would probably be working the Harry Potter Midnight Magic Release Party so they showed up to say hello and try to find a little bit of time to get together and visit. She is looking wonderful. Her diet plan through Kaiser seems to really be helping her get healthier, she said that her high blood pressure was gone. We went out for lunch at Red Robin and played catch up before I had to be to work at four.
She said she would be back in mid-August since she has to have a crown fixed.

Batman Begins

I was supposed to go see this today with James, his brother Bob, and his friend Liz on the IMAX screen in Dublin, but I ended up having to rush around Ohlone making sure to get all my paperwork for OFK turned in. Got that mostly taken care of, aside from needing to take my Social Security card to them early on Monday morning. (Thank you [livejournal.com profile] dragonluk for your help in translating some of the paperwork). ^_^

James had driven me over to the walk in clinic in Warmsprings to get my TB results and when they came out with them I was told that my Father had called there to tell me that he found out that the office was going to be closed on Friday and that I needed to get the paperwork up there right away or I wouldn't have been able to teach on Monday. Ack! James had to drop me off at Ohlone so I could run around and get my fingerprinting done and he could go see the film with Liz and Bob. After that had dinner with Dragon at Outback and then watched some "Witch Hunter Robin" before James arrived.

Calcifer

Went to see "Howl's Moving Castle" with James and Dragon. As always Miyazaki's work is breathtaking and brilliant. The landscapes are stunning (drool) and the characters are wonderful. Calcifer is adorable. We thought we were going to be seeing a subtitled showing, but the dubbing job was very well done. I'll be very curious to see the subtitled version on DVD. Had a less than ideal dinner at Macaroni Grill afterward before heading back home, but it was very nice getting to spend some more time with Miss [livejournal.com profile] dragonluk. Thanks again for driving! ^_^

Had a lovely day off yesterday. I tidied up the the house (and actually remembered to mop the floor this time!) and around four my friend, Kyla showed up. Yay! James called a bit after this declaring that he was HUNGRY! HUNGRY! HUNGRY! Dragon called and said that she was going to be a bit late, the person she has been seeing had called to let her know he was stuck in traffic. We agreed that Kyla and I would agree on a place to go eat so we could head out as soon as they arrived. Japanese food was the vote and James suggested we try a place that his family recommended over on Decoto. It was okay, certainly passable, but not nearly as good as they claimed. They compared it to this place by my store and said they thought it was better than that, I can't say that I agree. Dragon had to leave a little before six so she could make it to the Vienna Teng show in Berkley. After dinner we went by a frozen yogurt place that Kyla remembered being near by. I'm not a big fan of frozen yogurt, but I thought I could give it a try. Eh...I ended up throwing out about half of mine. After that we headed back to my house to visit. My friend, Maria called after a while to ask if it was okay if she came over and then around eight Aya and her husband showed up. Kyla had been so surprised when we told her that Aya had been married since August. Aya's husband is making amazing headway with ESL. I'm amazed, when he first came here he didn't know any English and now he was able to participate in our conversation very well. The rain and wind were raging outside, but I was fortifying my company with homemade fudge so they didn't mind. Maria brought over a box of See's chocolate...like my house needs more sweets! Aya gave me two black Maneki Nekos for Christmas! So cute! Fortunately I had had something for each of them, I usually would have wanted to gift them with a little more, but I usually put off buying some of my friends Christmas presents since I don't usually see them for a while after the holidays. I had a little plush manatee for Aya (I had been thinking about buying her something for her apartment, but since I haven't seen it I have no idea what style she is decorating in). Apparently fairly eclectic, but more Asian/Japanese than anything else. I'll have to keep that in mind. I only had something for Kyla since I stayed after work the night before to buy something, I picked up the first volume of the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. Too bad James had to leave pretty early in the evening, but it was wonderful getting to see so many of my old friends. I'm so glad that we've been able to stay in touch over the years. Maria and I have known each other since kindergarten, Aya and I have been friends since seventh grade, and Kyla and I since eighth grade.

James got in yesterday from his trip to Las Vegas and was off today. He dropped me off for class- I got my latest paper back and was pleasantly surprised to find that he had given me a forty-eight out of fifty. I can live with that. I was surprised I didn't get a worse grade, I was so out of it from my allergies at the time that I was working on it. That and I was little stressed out from finding out that my friend, Chris had rushed to Kaiser because of chest pains. I was just pleased that I managed to get it done and figured I did a passable job on it and would deserve whatever grade he gave me. I'm happy with my grade. Stopped by for a quick hello to Dragon and then ran off to meet up with James.
We had a less than satisfactory dinner at Tony Roma's over by the Union City theatre. The lettuce in the salad tasted way past its prime (pretty wilted), this drink that I ordered (that was supposed to be a chocolate liquer, vodka, and raspberry or something like that) was served to me hot of all things and definitely had coffee in it. Don't you think a drink menu should make some mention of the fact that it's served hot and has coffee as an ingredient?! The chocolate martini they served me to replace it was pretty weak and unimpressive. My steak was really dry. Thank goodness for the french fries. I don't think I'm going to be terribly interested in returning there anytime soon. Our server was very nice though.
The movie more than made up for a poor dinner; "The Incredibles" was incredible! Such an awesome movie. All the effects looked great: the hair, the fabric, the backgrounds, their hair when it gets wet. I loved ElastiGirl and the way she moved and stretched. Frozo (?), Samuel L. Jackson's character was very cool. That's all I'm going to say, I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. Go see it!
Got home and there was a message from James' mother saying that his boss had called for him, asking him to come in earlier tomorrow morning so James had to leave earlier than originally planned. Pout. Stupid boss, won't do any of the big set-ups himself. What a shmuck. Apparently another manager was very surprised that Sean had James handling some of the stuff that he does and yet he's completely retarded his training so that James couldn't be given his own store.
After James left I listened to some Loreena McKennitt while doing laundry and cooking something for tomorrow. I made a pasta dish with pesto sauce, broccoli, prosciutto, and chicken. I just finished the dishes a bit ago.

James and I had a good time this Halloween weekend, all worrying about my Grandmother aside.

Saturday, Oct 30: )
Halloween!: Putzed around the house and then agreed that we were going to go over to a steak house on Mowry called Jerricho's. I decided to just do the Dark Sith Lord look for the day so I dragged out a form fitting full length black velvet high-collared sleeveless dress to wear with my black Jedi robe. With small fishnet stockings and three inch heels (making me 5'11") I felt ready to lure a Scotsman over to the Dark Side of the Force. (heheehehee...) Had a very nice dinner...the decor is interesting. They are trying for a medieval castle look with heraldry banners hung on the walls, sword crests, and Knight figures mounted on the wall. They need to take it a little further, but it was interesting. We had a lovely dinner and then went to see whether or not Hollywood Video had a copy of the David Bowie movie "The Hunger." Called the Dragon over to watch it with us. It was...uh..... I'm not sure where I sit on that film. It wasn't bad...it was sort of intriguing. I think I generally like stuff that is a little more overtly Vampire than that was. The thing the Lady Master Vampire did with her old companions was pretty creepy and dreadful, but other than that it wasn't terribly creepy.
Nov. 1st: Our five year Anniversary. My Grammie Furlong asked me to do her a favor and to get married before she passes away. Sigh...yes Grammie. We went out to dinner to Market Broiler which was where we went for our first dinner together five years ago. We planned out questions to ask my relatives in Sweden so we can try moving forward with plans for going over to Sweden and Norway.

Hey [livejournal.com profile] azurdragon do you need any more wolf reference shots for Little Kasa? I just succumb to allure of another wolf book at work this evening. I can bring it with me on Monday if you would like to take a look at it.

The ever so kind, generous, benevolent, big-hearted [livejournal.com profile] azurdragon agreed to give me a ride home from work tonight. Yay! James had to open Saturday and my parents were going to be out at a show. Dragon happened to stop in right toward the beginning of my shift so I batted my hazel eyes at her and pleaded for aid. She kindly said that that would not be a problem and then stopped by later to ask if I wanted to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] stride for dessert and receiving a birthday gift from Stride. Hmmm...the promise of sugar and presents? WooHoo! Sign me up! People had their switch turned to stupid today, i.e., I had to argue with a woman that just because a little beaded coin purse of the "Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle was stuffed inside of and stuck in the zipper of an Eloise backpack did not make them a set that was selling for $4.95! Grrrrrr.....Imbecile! BAKA! Yes, I'm sure! (Does she look like a hungry caterpillar to you?! Shoo, go away!) I had to cut them loose from each other, but fortunately we had some gold twine for tying up chocolate boxes so I was able to reattach the price tag to the bag (and I threw a security tag into it for good measure).
That was probably my most colorful encounter, aside from the woman who was looking for a journal and specified that she wanted one for writing in. (Huh, what an odd thing to want in a journal). Do people listen to themselves at all?! Do they think at all before they open their mouth to talk?! And the big question is why am I always surprised by how stupid people are?!
I was very happy to be getting out of there at ten-thirty; Dragon, Stride, and I ventured off to Newark to seek pie from Baker's Square. They were out of French Silk. Drat. So, I ended up getting Caramel Pecan Silk Supreme which is just about Death By Sugar . The tea tasted very good after a long day at work. I might not have needed the caffeine, but the tea's warmth and flavor was very soothing. They didn't have Dragon's second choice of pie either, but she ended up getting a half slice of french silk that they still had and half slice of the Caramel Pecan Silk Supreme.
After pie we headed over to my abode to watch a couple of episodes of "Teen Titans", an episode of "Justice League", and "Samurai Jack." Very cool. Jean tried to help everyone feel at home by sitting with us and offering her cute stripy fur for petting. She's quite the considerate little hostess.
Stride gave me the cutest little ornament in a Tupperware container. It's this adorable dragon with monarch butterfly wings. ^_^ Very Cute. I always wanted a Tupperware container of my very own. =P Arigato Gozaimasu Stride-kun! Really, the dragon is so very cute! I certainly wasn't expecting Stride to buy me something for my birthday. =)
Goodnight!

Woke up to find Jean curled up on the floor at the foot of my bed. I'm worried that I may need to stop letting her sleep in my room at night. I was picking up stuff in my room and I discovered that she must have had an accident while being locked up in my room and unable to wake me to let her out. My blue bodice now really needs to be washed, but the hardwood floor seems to have cleaned up okay. I feel bad for her, she's a good girl, I'm sure she didn't want to do that, but I really don't want cats urinating in my room! Usually when she has slept in my room she is there when James isn't over and she sleeps on the opposite side of the bed next to me. Then if she hops off during the night I usually feel it and wake up to let her out. Poor little kitty. I'm not mad at her, she hasn't been feeling well and she had no way out of my room. I'm thinking about setting up her cat bed outside my room at night so she can sleep nearby, see how she takes to that. If James isn't staying over I think I will still give letting her stay in my room a try since I am able to wake up if she's on the bed and gets up.
Dragon called in the afternoon to see what our vacation plans were for the day. We agreed to meet at five outside of Pearl's Cafe. I drove James over to get a haircut and return "The Punisher." While there we picked up "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and "Shaolin Soccer." Both very good movies for very different reasons. Eternal Sunshine was very interesting... I would recommend it if you enjoy a story that isn't straightforward and surprises you. "Shaolin Soccer" is just fun.
After James' haircut I drove us over to the Hub so I could inquire at Site For Sore Eyes about this offer they have where you can get a free eye exam and the second pair of glasses free. I've been needing glasses for a while and thought I would look into them since I think it would be a while till my optometrist would be able to see me. I've been a little anxious about driving at night recently if there are a lot of cars around since I get a lot glare effect in the right eye. Sigh, I hate that my right eye is getting worse. It was weird, but I felt like I was betraying Dr. Tsujimoto by going to Site for Sore Eyes. I've seen him since I was a little girl, but I've been bad and haven't seen him in several years. We had to call Dragon from Site for Sore Eyes to let her know we would be about fifteen minutes late for arriving at Pearl's for dinner.
Dinner was wonderful and dessert just about put me in a coma it made my brain so happy. Mmmm...I think I could actually feel the endorphins rushing through me. My brain was singing! Our server is such a nice guy, we used to see him at Market Broiler and I ring him and his lady-friend up at B&N sometimes. James didn't care for his entree, it was duck confit with cherries and blue cheese. He thought the blue cheese was overwhelming and our server apologized, took it back, offered James something else. He accidentally brought out the wrong dessert to Dragon, but let her keep that and corrected her order. He kept apologizing for it, geez two desserts. Yeah, you had better apologize! ^_^ He also brought me a glass of Chocolate Port to drink with my brownie. Brownie does not even begin to do this dessert justice! Droooooool.
Dragon stopped by after sword class and showed me how to alter a photo so I could have this icon of Jean. =)

...dangerous hobby that is a sure way to get you a little crispy around the edges or an amusing pastime that is only mildly perverse?

Mostly just amusing. I do enjoy partaking in the occasional game of dress up the AzurDragon. She looks quite good in a variety of hats, I might add. ^_^

Shopping )

After we got back to my house Dragon showed me a couple of episodes of "Teen Titans." I can kind of see why that series has grown on her. I like Justice League better, but it is rather cute. It's just sort of weird watching this cartoon use so many little anime scene things, i.e. characters in SD mode. I got to see the episode where Starfire is supposed to get married to something that looks like a jello mold with hoses coming out of it, that was pretty funny.

A good day off.

Just got back from class about an hour ago and James had left a message on my machine while I was out saying that he just got his schedule and it looks as though I won't get to see him till Monday. Monday?! (insert appropriate whining sound) Pout. Sulk. Mope. That displeases me. Sigh...oh well, not a lot that can be done about it, unless I were to win the lottery or something. I should get to see him for a nonce tonight since Dragon and I are going to be going over to Newpark shortly. hehehehee...I get to go on a shopping excursion with her. I find that more than a little amusing. Playing dress up the Dragon is a sure fire recipe for a good time.

While in Michigan James went to a farm; you can pick your own fruit there, etc. He got some fresh pressed cider and Liz bought a jar of red raspberry jam to be sent back to me, James told her I love raspberries. Mmmmm....James and I had some on toast today before he went to work. James found a set of ear-cuffs for me at the Faire. They are beautiful- silver with an amethyst stone in a feathery Art Deco style dangle charm. Lovely.
Tomorrow after class I will get to spend part of James' bday with him. He wants to check his brother's plans before he decides whether to go out to dinner with me or something.
anam_moon: (hmmm)
My voice seems to be recovering in spite of having to work and chat at customers today. James was given a sick day from work Thursday so we got to see each other Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon till he had to drop me off at work. Tomorrow he's flying out to Detroit to see his friend, Liz with his twin brother, Bob. They're going so they can visit with Liz and her boyfriend and they'll also be checking out the Michigan Ren Faire, it's supposed to be amazing. Another reason for the visit is that Liz's cousin, Chris' breast cancer has metastasized and she has decided to stop treatment. This will possibly be the last time that James will ever see her. I have no words for how that makes me feel, I've never met her, but still...I admire her and I feel bad for her. Hopefully James will have a nice visit and come home feeling rested.
I'm hoping that someone will take my September 8th shift for me. I didn't think James was going to be free at all on his birthday, but his boss was willing to accommodate James so he will be opening that day, possibly get out early, and then doesn't have to be in till the closing shift the next day, but I'm still scheduled to work! Ack! With any luck someone will respond to the note I left in the break room and work it for me. I hate to think I might not get to be there for James' B-day when he's actually going to be free for the evening.
anam_moon: (Default)
These seem to be happening more and more frequently recently. Of course, that is partially due to James' hours being cut. At least we've gotten to do some stuff together recently. We had plans to go to his friend, Jason Butler's house in the evening, but our day was free otherwise. We decided to go out to lunch and ended up inviting my Mom and my Grandmother to come along with us. We decided to take them to Macaroni Grill and drove over to pick up my Grandmother. She gave me a present...sigh...it's a small statue of a little nude boy urinating. My Great-Aunt Millie (my grandpa Furlong's twin sister) brought it back as a gift to her from Belgium when she was an Army Nurse during WWII. The story goes that a little prince went missing and the king decreed that whatever pose he was found in would be erected into a statue and he was found nude and urinating. She kept telling me I had to put it someplace where people could see it, how cute it is. Look, I love my grandmother and appreciate her thinking of me, I love children, but I really, really don't want a statue of a nude peeing child in my room! What the heck am I supposed to do with this thing?! I intend to hang on to it since it was a memento from a relative, but still...ack! It was nice having lunch with my Mom and Grandmother, even if my Grandmother almost always makes at least one inappropriate comment. In the middle of lunch, rather loudly, Grammie commented that she could see my cleavage. Great...thank you. After visiting for a while after getting back to Grammie's house we headed home and hung around till it was about time to go to Jason's place. We stopped by James' house so he could pick up some more clothes, pick up a Cd that he wants to loan Azurdragon, and pick up "Eddie Izzard-Dress to Kill" since, apparently, I've been driving him a little nuts with my incessant quoting of Izzard. (heheehehehe....) I got to see one of the little feral kitties that lives outside their house, Clementine. She brought James a leaf the other day. Very pretty little orange/light beige tabby cat. Then we headed over to Jason's and brought along the battery powered swimming Nemo that James picked up for Jason's pool at Toys R Us. Swimming was wonderful! Got to "christen" my new swimsuit, it was very comfortable and I felt pretty. WooHoo! I wish I could swim every day, my legs would be in such good shape! There is nothing quite like paddling along, floating on your back staring up at the stars. Even if you can only see a few with all the Fremont Light Pollution, it's still pretty. James gave me a piggy back ride in the pool! =D (heheehe...it's been a long time since I had one of those!) I got to meet Jason's lady friend, Tina, try something called a taco pizza, and watch Jason play some Doom 3. Eek! I felt like a bit of a doofus, but there were a few times that I really jumped when a zombie came lurching at us when we rounded a corner. At least everyone else did too so I didn't feel quite so stupid. Didn't really care for the Taco Pizza. It is a regular pizza crust with taco sauce, cheddar cheese, cold tomato, and lettuce. Tina only eats hamburger meat if it's really fresh so she doesn't trust the pizza place to have super fresh hamburger meat. The pizza was...uh...interesting. I personally really like tomato sauce. Cheddar cheese is a good thing, but....eh. James and I stopped by Safeway on the way home so we could pick up a few things to turn the ice cream I had at home into a sundae. We decided to be indulgent for the evening. =) They didn't have hot fudge! How lame is that?! They had chocolate syrup and that chocolate magic shell stuff, but no Hot Fudge! I'm of half a mind to write their corporate office! Who ever heard of such a thing?! (sniffs indignantly) Jason seems to keep the chlorine levels in his pool really high so it felt wonderful taking a shower when I got home. I still thought I smelled faintly of chlorine, but it might have just been an after fragrance from my lotion. Despite that, I still wish he would go on vacation for something like a month and have James and I housesit. =D

A Birthday!

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] monkeysminion! I hope you have a great time at Dave& Busters!
anam_moon: (Hugs)
Crawled out of bed semi early (Not as early as I had been, but not too bad.) so I could get ready to see my friend, Jason. Heheehehe...I refer to him as Monkey Boy a lot cause he a great affinity for primates. I do so often that I've noticed that AzurDragon will refer to him that way too.
We went to Baystreet near my house to have coffee (this is the only time that I partake of said concoction.) and then we agreed to go play pool. I love playing pool with him! I'm not terribly good, whenever I make a shot it usually comes as a distinct surprise to me and was more by chance than through any great skill. I couldn't believe it, but I won the first game! Well, technically he lost twice and I won once all in the same game since he accidentally hit the eight ball in very early in the game twice and we just decided to put it back out on the table and pretend it hadn't happened. Part of the great fun in playing pool with him comes from the fact that he gets about as excited as I do when I actually manage to sink a ball and that we come up with the most entertaining phrases when we are near each other, such as "pocket tease" (when a ball skims/teeters at the edge of the pocket, but still doesn't go in) or something like that. We get pretty colorful sometimes. All in all the combination of our two personalities results in us probably being much sillier than we are most of the time when we are apart.
After a few games of pool I managed to convince him to go out for lunch and he chose Japanese food so I ended up having Japanese food two days in a row, ah well. It sounds as though he has met someone that really cares for him and appreciates how wonderful he is, I'm glad. I've always thought he was an amazing person and deserved someone that agreed.
Then we decided to go wander around Newpark Mall and I actually managed to get him to recommend a birthday gift for him. He believes in finding the perfect gift for someone and doesn't like taking suggestions for gifts or giving suggestions. He finds it to be more meaningful if the person just finds something that they think suits him. I can appreciate that, but it can be a little...stressful feels a bit extreme...I'll just say I feel a certain pressure to find something perfect that can be a little harrying at times. Jason always seems to come up with something for me that touches me so much, that makes me feel truly special to him and I worry about mine living up to that. This time though he actually came out and said something that he wanted! He hadn't received Season six of "Buffy." I gave him season one or two, rushed to the store, they hadn't even unpacked it yet, but his Mother and, I think, another person ended up giving that to him as well so after that I think folks figured that someone else was going to get him "Buffy" so he hadn't received "Buffy" as a gift since then. SInce we were at Newpark we stopped by to visit my beloved, James and he had a coworker ring me up for "Buffy- Season 6" with his discount. Score!

Oh...before we actually went into the mall we stopped so he could get gas and I went in to the gas station store to buy gum. Jason came in to buy a pack of cigarettes and I jokingly turned to him and said, "But, you're only sixteen." and then the clerk asked for ID. (evil laugh). Then the guy commented that I looked as though I was only about sixteen and asked how old I was, "26." He then said I was old. 25 was okay or something like that, but after that you're old. (cough...uh...screw you!?...cough) Not sure whether I should be flattered that he thought that I could be just 16 or offended for him then proceeding to tell me that I'm old...oh wait, I know. I should just not care. There we go, that works for me.

Once we were done wandering through the mall we stopped in to see his Mom since he was actually in the area and nearly never sees her. It was okay visiting with her, aside from the fact that they both smoke indoors there. Eek! I took a shower afterward and had to throw all my clothes in the laundry, that smoke permeates everything! Oh well, it was still wonderful getting to see him. It was about eight-thirty after that so he brought me home.
James came over after work and we watched the DVD of "Hellboy" that he bought.
