A 2,000-year-old house in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, which was once used by gladiators to train before combat, collapsed Saturday, officials said.

Well crap. That sucks. We were just there.

I've always been amazed at Italian museums. No climate control, open windows, dusty, under-labeled items. Even the Vatican, which clearly has the money to do better, leaves the Vatican Museum as a hot and humid mess throughout the summer. The damage to the artwork is just piling up. But it's just not a priority there.

Italy isn't the only one at fault when it comes to letting art/historical sites deteriorate. I've heard the Lascaux Paleolithic cave paintings have suffered a lot of damage, too.
