Yay! I'm off today! Woohoo! And it's raining which means I probably get to spend the day playing "dry the cat." Heidi (the skinny terror of things furred and winged) loves playing outside in the rain and then being dried off. Then rinse and repeat. Goofy cat.
Not sure what James and I will end up doing today. I need to do some vacuuming and mop the floor, but other than that I don't have any plans. James rented a new PS2 game yesterday so I'm not sure how much coaxing it will take to get him to go somewhere away from the PS2. Probably not very much, I would just need to actually come up with something for us to do.
There is a group in the Bay Area that hosts several dance/costume events a year called PEERS. I've been wanting to go to one of their soirees for a long time, but they were always on Saturday so I had been unable to attend. November 5th will be their 12th Annual Le Bal des Vampires. James has agreed to go with me. He said it may not be his cup of tea, but would give it a try. Besides, he had been wanting for us to learn how to dance together. Here is some info about the event:

LE BAL DES VAMPIRES
http://www.peers.org/vamp05.html
Saturday, November 5, 2005
at the Pleasanton Senior Center
5353 Sunol Blvd
Pleasanton, California
Doors Open: 6:30 pm
6:30 - 7:30 pm - dance music from our vampire DJ
Formal dancing: 7:30 - midnight
Featured Band: The Brazen Hussey
Tickets: $15 in advance (by October 29); $20 at the door.

Waltz the night away in a candlelit ballroom with the San Francisco Bay Area's most glamorous Undead at the 12th Annual Le Bal des Vampires.

Our band for the ball is the fabulous Brazen Hussey - celebrated for their exciting Celtic and Celtic fusion rock music but equally wonderful in their Victorian and vintage ballroom dance music, Swing and rock. As usual, haunting waltzes dominate the program, but the evening will also feature music from across the centuries - from Renaissance and Baroque to Victorian and vintage ballroom dance to Swing and rock. All set dances will be taught or called at the ball and partners are not necessary. We will have dance hosts (and hostesses) to guide you through the mazes of the dance.

At intermission and during the ball's first hour DJ Robyn Scott Forbes will play dance music of a more modern style. Our half-time show is a performance of Le Theatre des Vampires' latest romantic comedy - not recommended for the faint of heart but highly recommended for fans of the genre!

Suggested costume is evening dress or dress uniform from the century and country of your "rebirth." Historical costume or vintage or modern evening dress are all popular among our guests. While there is no dress code for the ball (and we hardly expect Spike to come in evening dress!), you will see some of the most gorgeous costumes of the social season at Le Bal des Vampires.

For more information about the ball, call (510) 522-1731, email peers@peers.org or see the ball website at http://www.peers.org/vamp05.html
