I saw "Serenity" last night at the Union City theatre with a group of people. We were running very late since we hit every single red light in Fremont on our way to the freeway and then it was horrendous trying to find a parking spot there on a Friday night. It was shiny.
Okay, James posed a question to me on the ride home and has made me curious about it to so I will ask here because I'm curious what opinions folks may have about it. Reavers, scary bunch. If they're supposed to be men that have gone completely feral and eat people, etc. How are they able to live in a unit the way they do? Why don't they attack and eat each other? How are they still able to retain enough humanity to pilot a ship and keep it running? They seem so mad-dog crazy, how would they work out a plan to properly ambush someone. 1st Reaver="Grrr...slobber..snarl...bark, you stay on ship. We go kill and eat people for hours." 2nd Reaver="Grrrrrr...awwwww...but I want to go eat people! I don't want to stay with the ship!" I'm curious what other folks' opinion on this will be.

I liken it to wolves, they eat other prey and pack together.

Well yes, but they really seem to have reverted back to the very basest of instincts and seem to be really, truly nutters so what about continuing to be able to handle complicated machines?

My impression was that they became ultra-violent, not that they actually lost the ability to reason altogether. However, whatever capacity for thought they still have is directed toward obtaining victims. If they could do that without ships, I'm sure they would lapse completely.

Okay, I suppose I should be thinking of them more as sociopaths and less like a feral animal. They certainly sounded and acted like feral animals though. Ick.
