For one day, at least, the roadrunner was safe. It seems the coyote was hankering for another kind of fast food. Employees and customers at a downtown Chicago Quiznos sandwich shop were stunned to see a coyote walk through the propped-open front door Tuesday afternoon and lie down in a cooler stocked with fruit juice and soda.

"It wasn't aggressive at all," restaurant manager Bina Patel told the Chicago Tribune. "It was just looking around."

Employees and customers calmly cleared out of the restaurant, though some took the time to finish their sandwiches and snap some cell-phone photos, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Animal control officers took the passive coyote away after about 40 minutes, after a curious crowd had gathered outside.

"This one I will definitely remember forever. A coyote in downtown Chicago," Quiznos employee Rick Torres told WLS-TV.

The city captures 10 to 15 coyotes every year, especially in the spring when they are most active, said Anne Kent, director of Chicago Animal Care and Control. Veterinarians will examine the coyote and, if he is not injured, release him into the wild.

lol. :) Good story. :)

I've seen a coyote in the wild once. It was 1986, my family was on a trip to Death Valley. As we were driving through the valley (slowly for a bit), a coyote paced along side the van for a while before we sped up to go onto our destination.

One night when Jim P. and I were driving on Paseo Padre I saw what I initially thought was a dog running along the side of the road. After looking at it better I swear that it appeared to be a coyote. It wandered onto the private Ohlone tribe grounds.

Last night I had been having trouble falling asleep and was just laying in bed with the bedroom window open, and I heard an emergency siren off in the distance. A few seconds after I started hearing it, a chorus of howls accompanied it, also off in the distance, but too close for my comfort. I'm pretty sure it was a pack of coyotes, because it didn't sound very much like dogs howling, for some reason. It made me want to bring the cats in, so they wouldn't get eaten, but when I woke up Hubby to ask what he thought, he said they'd be fine, and wouldn't let me, and reminded me of the nasty mess I had just recently had to clean up off the carpet. So I conceded, but I had an even worse time trying to fall asleep after that. It was such an eerie sound, it really made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I can imagine what that sound does to their prey. *shudder*

Does this mean Odin came back?
Would it be possible for you to lock the cats in the garage at night? My Aunt Sandy lives in Rescue, CA (in the Sacramento area) and the area is populated with coyotes. She has lost cats to the coyotes because they have gotten out and stayed out all night. I strongly urge you to try to find some arrangement that will work for you that will keep your kitties in at night.
