My Mom and I took Jean to the vet today because of her decreased appetite. My poor little thing, her gums are very inflamed and the vet examining her wasn't sure whether she just has small kidneys or is beginning to go through senior cat kidney failure. I okayed them doing the full battery of blood work so they can see whether she has thyroid issues and what condition her kidneys are in. I really think people should bring along a completely neutral party to any medical exam so that they can listen to everything that the doctor has to say and aren't getting caught up in the emotional impact of the medical news. She's a good weight still, a little over nine pounds. She seems to be mildly dehydrated. They gave her a shot to try to help with the inflammation of her gums. Hopefully we're getting on this early enough that we can try to maintain her health. Right now, as things stand now, she still has a good energy level, she doesn't seem to be in pain. I want to keep her with me as long as possible, but I don't want her quality of life to be poor.
