Stolen Rembrandt recovered

With any luck they will be able to locate the second Renoir painting that the armed robbers took. Daring armed thefts of paintings seem to be happening more and more in European museums. Is it just that their security is so lax that the thieves know they can get away with it?

Sad thing... I didn't even know it was stolen.

Rembrandt is amazing... I actually just bought a book full of his work!

Well, thank goodness they were able to track it down. Hopefully the second Renoir painting isn't damaged, wherever it is.
I'm hopeful still that "The Scream" and "The Madonna" by Munch will be recovered. I haven't heard anything new about it in some time. I know for a while that they were worried that they might have been burned to destroy evidence. Ack!!

I know, when I first read that I think my heart clenched up for a moment. When I visited relatives in Norway earlier this year one of them asked me what was so special about these paintings. Not that he wanted them thrown out or anything, they are part of his country's heritage, but he couldn't understand the appeal. It's not that they're the most brilliant paintings in the world. I think what strikes people is the emotion they evoke. There is such a feeling of dismay, shock, and horror on the Scream figure's face that you can't help, but react to it.

Oh, I agree! They aren't my favorites... but the idea of throwing away art is absolutely horrible! And they do evoke so much emotion. Especially like Scream. Like you said... the face shows and gives so many emotions!!!

The Scream (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scream)

This is very interesting, especially the part about it being an effect from the eruption of Krakatoa that Munch was painting.
