Sunday-At around one headed over with James and my Mother to my Aunt Patty's house for my Grandmother's Birthday. Her actual birthday was the 23rd, but they were heading up for the ranch in Red Bluff on Monday. =) Got to see my Aunt Sandy, Aunt Patty and Uncle Rodger, cousin Gwen, cousin Alex, my Grandparents, Great-Aunt Karen, and my 2nd cousin Allen.
They made sooooo much food! I swear the counter should have been groaning with how much food it was bearing. Mmmm....fruit, homemade muffins, bar-b-qued pork tenderloin, spinach salad to name a few....mmmm. Yum! The weather has been so mild and nice that most of us sat outside to visit and eat. I seem to have taken up the mantle of one of the family's "Recorders" because I wandered around taking photos of everyone enjoying themselves. I think part of my inspiration is getting to send these to Heather in Oregon. (She'll hopefully be visiting for her birthday in September). Met a young man that is friends with/graduated with my cousin, Gwen. I'm certain they are interested in each other. He seems nice, I liked that he addressed my Grandfather as Sir, and if he isn't nice my uncle will surely kill him. ;)
My Aunt brought back some great birthday candles (Apparently there are girl ones and boy ones) back from one of her flights to China. They set off a couple of the girl ones for us (a couple of us missed the first one). It's a pink plastic flower, about five inches tall, sits in the center of the table and you light the center and it begins shooting off a stream of sparks into the air and it lights about six small candles attached to it and then after the firework show is over it spins slowly while the melody to Happy Birthday is played.
We sang her Happy Birthday in our traditional Brask way of horribly off key. We can sing, but we've always sung Happy Birthday as off key as possible. The family ability to sing was demonstrated by my Aunts, Grandmother, niece, and Great-Aunt. Every time my Grandfather mentioned the name of his high school (his school and Washington High were rivals) they would sing the Washington High School cheer. It was cute. He accidentally let it slip out one time and I saw him wince as though thinking,"Ah shoot, I'm in for it now." ^_^
My Aunt also found some interesting magic tricks that we played with part of the afternoon.
My Father had stopped by on his one o'clock lunch break and swung back over after he got off work. My Aunt showed us some of her photos from China. She had some very dramatic shots of her trip to the Great Wall, it was a foggy day and in some of them you can see part of the wall leading up to a tower and then fading off into the fog. Very cool. I need more vacation and more money. There are so many places I want to see. Hello? Lottery?
We didn't end up leaving there till about seven-thirty.
