Had a lovely day off yesterday. I tidied up the the house (and actually remembered to mop the floor this time!) and around four my friend, Kyla showed up. Yay! James called a bit after this declaring that he was HUNGRY! HUNGRY! HUNGRY! Dragon called and said that she was going to be a bit late, the person she has been seeing had called to let her know he was stuck in traffic. We agreed that Kyla and I would agree on a place to go eat so we could head out as soon as they arrived. Japanese food was the vote and James suggested we try a place that his family recommended over on Decoto. It was okay, certainly passable, but not nearly as good as they claimed. They compared it to this place by my store and said they thought it was better than that, I can't say that I agree. Dragon had to leave a little before six so she could make it to the Vienna Teng show in Berkley. After dinner we went by a frozen yogurt place that Kyla remembered being near by. I'm not a big fan of frozen yogurt, but I thought I could give it a try. Eh...I ended up throwing out about half of mine. After that we headed back to my house to visit. My friend, Maria called after a while to ask if it was okay if she came over and then around eight Aya and her husband showed up. Kyla had been so surprised when we told her that Aya had been married since August. Aya's husband is making amazing headway with ESL. I'm amazed, when he first came here he didn't know any English and now he was able to participate in our conversation very well. The rain and wind were raging outside, but I was fortifying my company with homemade fudge so they didn't mind. Maria brought over a box of See's chocolate...like my house needs more sweets! Aya gave me two black Maneki Nekos for Christmas! So cute! Fortunately I had had something for each of them, I usually would have wanted to gift them with a little more, but I usually put off buying some of my friends Christmas presents since I don't usually see them for a while after the holidays. I had a little plush manatee for Aya (I had been thinking about buying her something for her apartment, but since I haven't seen it I have no idea what style she is decorating in). Apparently fairly eclectic, but more Asian/Japanese than anything else. I'll have to keep that in mind. I only had something for Kyla since I stayed after work the night before to buy something, I picked up the first volume of the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. Too bad James had to leave pretty early in the evening, but it was wonderful getting to see so many of my old friends. I'm so glad that we've been able to stay in touch over the years. Maria and I have known each other since kindergarten, Aya and I have been friends since seventh grade, and Kyla and I since eighth grade.
