The day started off well enough, getting ready for Dad to come home on his lunch break so I could get a lift to our mutual work area, but Dragon called and offered to give me a ride to work and that way she could come over and visit for a bit. She got to watch me repeatedly run Jean out of the kitchen. Ever since Jean has needed to have a plate of food specially fixed for her she is constantly going into the kitchen, she always used to be so good about that.

I don't know why the day seemed so long, it was certainly busy enough. I had a frustrating project to work on behind the counter that took me most of the day to do. We are combining our customer holds (stuff that we had onhand that we pulled for someone.) with our customer orders and it needed to be shifted down to just the bottom shelves so I had to pull things out, shift things down, hunt for new homes for stuff to be put on display, reorganize the CDs that we keep behind the counter, and I kept finding that I still didn't have enough room so I needed to move more stuff around so I could free up another bottom shelf. Amidst all this fun I had to deal with the fact that I would pick up three books and another customer would appear. Urgh. Go away! It was constant. As usual there were a lot of people that had paid no attention to the fact that we have a huge customer service desk in the center of the store with a bright, glowing sign above it. The company went to a lot of expense to install that and insists that we keep it manned at all times and that we can't call the booksellers up front and I have people kind of giving me the evil eye when I tell them to go there. I have to try to explain to virtually every third customer that I'm not supposed to abandon the registers. They always act as though that strikes them as such a novel idea. How can so many people completely miss that big feature that is in the dead center of the store and is right in your line of vision as you walk in the door? I certainly noticed it when I came in right after it had been installed! Nooo...they see me and come over with a big list of twelve books they need help finding with the line of people building up behind them. Sigh. It's all very frustrating some days. That and I found that someone from the morning crew had never closed out his register so there was an extra register to count. Someone needs to train him properly! I never work with him so I can't do it. Fortunately my closing manager counted it for me so I wouldn't have to do it at the end of the evening when I'm really tight on time anyway. Hopefully she'll see to it that he gets informed that he is responsible for the money in that register and it is up to him to count it before the end of his shift. I'm getting tired of finding a surprise extra register on the days he works. Problem is he was originally only going to be temporary and he only works one day a week so they seem to be letting his training go by the wayside.
Thankfully I'm off today (Monday) and will get to see James at some point. Yay! I wish the weather would have been a little cooler, more Bay Area like to welcome him home with, but hopefully it will start cooling off pretty soon. I can't stand this heat.
