Bone Marrow transplant in Germany

Bone Marrow transplant seems to have cured man of AIDS.

Obviously this is not going to be the answer to treating AIDS, but I think it certainly opens some interesting avenues for researching possible treatments.

Is it a Stroke?

Three Simple Questions: Is it a Stroke?

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to
identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells
disaster. The stroke victim may suffer brain damage
when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a
stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by
asking three simple questions:

*Ask the individual to smile.

*Ask him or her to raise both arms.

*Ask the person to speak a simple sentence.

If he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call
9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the
dispatcher.

After discovering that a group of non-medical
volunteers could identify facial weakness, arm
weakness and speech problems, researchers urged the
general public to learn the three questions.

They presented their conclusions at the American
Stroke Association's annual meeting last February.
Widespread use of this test could result in prompt
diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent
brain damage.

Olive Oil

Friendly Fat
Olive oil isn't only a boon to heart health. New research shows it may have other powers, too.
Oleic acid -- a healthy monounsaturated fat found in olive oil -- may help disarm a gene that prompts breast cancer cells to grow and divide, a recent study revealed.

My voice seems to be recovering in spite of having to work and chat at customers today. James was given a sick day from work Thursday so we got to see each other Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon till he had to drop me off at work. Tomorrow he's flying out to Detroit to see his friend, Liz with his twin brother, Bob. They're going so they can visit with Liz and her boyfriend and they'll also be checking out the Michigan Ren Faire, it's supposed to be amazing. Another reason for the visit is that Liz's cousin, Chris' breast cancer has metastasized and she has decided to stop treatment. This will possibly be the last time that James will ever see her. I have no words for how that makes me feel, I've never met her, but still...I admire her and I feel bad for her. Hopefully James will have a nice visit and come home feeling rested.
I'm hoping that someone will take my September 8th shift for me. I didn't think James was going to be free at all on his birthday, but his boss was willing to accommodate James so he will be opening that day, possibly get out early, and then doesn't have to be in till the closing shift the next day, but I'm still scheduled to work! Ack! With any luck someone will respond to the note I left in the break room and work it for me. I hate to think I might not get to be there for James' B-day when he's actually going to be free for the evening.
