Mayan King's Tomb Discovered in Guatemala
A well-preserved tomb of an ancient Mayan king has been discovered in Guatemala by a team of archaeologists led by Brown University's Stephen Houston. The tomb is packed with carvings, ceramics, textiles, and the bones of six children, who may have been sacrificed at the time of the king's death.

Two new insects discovered in UAE
Two new insect species have been discovered in the UAE's first mountain protected area, Wadi Wurayah; a tiny, 2mm long aquatic beetle (Coleoptera): Ochthebius wurayah, and a wasp species commonly known as a ‘velvet ant' (Hymenoptera), approximately 5mm long: Nanomutilla wurayahensis.

Scientists develop genetically-engineered mosquito that cannot pass on malaria
Scientists have created a genetically modified mosquito which cannot pass malaria to humans.
The ultimate aim is replacing wild mosquitoes with the lab bred population - although scientists say this would take at least a decade to achieve.

Jade garments, coffins discovered in Han-era tomb in Jiangsu
Jade garments sewn with fine gold threads and jade coffins were found in a tomb recently during an excavation in Huaian Xuyi of Jiangsu province on July 15. The items signify that the tomb's owner was most likely a king, noble or other person of significance in the Western Han Dynasty.
